Computational Study on Structural and Thermal Behavior of Aircraft Disk Brake Rotor for Different Materials

Brakes are one of the most significant safety systems in an aircraft. The rotor will be exposed to large stresses which result surface cracking, overheating brake fluid, seals and other components during braking process. Thus, main tasks for design system is reduce stress, deformation temperature rotor. This can achieved by choosing right material undergo least thermal stresses. In this research a detailed study structural analysis carried out disc DHC-6 Twin Otter with different materials. objective provide efficient dissipate heat generated at faster rate also being structurally safe. materials chosen Mild Steel, Grey cast iron, Stainless steel, Cabon-carbon composite Aluminum silicon carbide MMC. From it was found that aluminum MMC exhibits superior performance against mass 2.37 Kg, 0.043617 mm, maximum stress 167.91 MPa, 250.85 oC flux 5.2043 W/mm2. mass, developed less than original stainless steel 61.3%, 3.66%, 6.9% 35.6% respectively. Similarly, provides better dissipation as compared due increment 15.26%.
